Quiet Contemplations | Visual Meditations | Transcendent Photography

Jo Holland

I work with light, nature, and time to create photographic works that exist as spaces of perception rather than images of documentation.

Grounded in photographic traditions that engage with light, time, and perception, my work explores the subtle relationship between presence and stillness, visibility and sensation. Through processes shaped by natural conditions, I create images that function as experiences—quiet, immersive, and attentive to what exists just beyond the immediately visible.

The works unfold through slow absorption, carrying an almost hypnotic quality; the longer they are looked at, the more they begin to reveal, shifting perception from observation to sustained encounter.

These works invite a slower way of seeing, where nature becomes collaborator and the photograph becomes a spatial encounter rather than a representation, designed to exist within refined living environments and curated interiors.

Jo has spent extended time living and working within Buddhist retreat environments in Thailand, an experience that has deeply informed her practice. During this period, she co-managed creative meditation retreats with the World Peace Initiative and was mentored by Buddhist monks.

Her work has been exhibited internationally across galleries, art fairs, and private collections in the UK, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the United States.
